Teeth Whitening

Teeth Whitening

Do you want a whiter, bright smile? At Advanced Family Dentistry, we offer professional teeth whitening treatments that can lighten the shade of your teeth several shades in just a single session. Removing stains and discoloration can improve your smile and also make you appear younger and give you a boost of confidence.

In-Office Teeth Whitening

The most popular and requested cosmetic procedure is in-office teeth whitening treatment. Our team uses only the safest, most effective teeth whitening agents to bleach the surface stains on your teeth. Professional in-office whitening treatment can lighten your teeth up to eight shades.

During our in-chair teeth whitening treatment, we will professionally clean your teeth to remove any built-up plaque and tartar. Then, a barrier is applied to your lips and gums to protect the soft tissue from the bleaching agent.

We then apply a concentrated bleaching gel directly to your teeth and then exposes your teeth to a specialized light that activates the bleaching agent breaking up the stains. The agent is then rinsed away.

The procedure typically takes approximately 60 minutes.

Advantages of In-Office Teeth Whitening

  • In-office teeth whitening offers dramatic results in minimal time.
  • The bleaching agents used are safe and carefully controlled by your dentist.

Disadvantages of In-Office Teeth Whitening

  • Due to the concentration of the dental bleach, you may experience a temporary increase in tooth sensitivity.
  • Teeth whitening is not a permanent solution to discoloration and patients should minimize their exposure to any substances that may re stain teeth.
  • Some staining is caused by intrinsic dental issues and may not respond to teeth whitening treatment. In these cases, porcelain veneers or dental crowns may offer an alternative solution.

At-Home Teeth Whitening Treatment

At Advanced Family Dentistry, we offer professionally formulated at-home teeth whitening kits that are ideal for maintaining your smile between visits or can be used to remove superficial stains.

Your at-home kit comes with a customized mouthguard that is designed to minimize gum exposure to the bleaching agent. To use the kit, simply apply the recommended dose of bleaching gel to the inside of the mouthguard and insert the tray for an hour per day. You can repeat the treatment daily until your teeth reach the desired shade.

What to Expect After Teeth Whitening

You may experience some increased sensitivity immediately after treatment, but this fades quickly. Teeth whitening is not permanent, and you may need to visit the dentist for follow-up whitening treatments to maintain your pearly white smile.

Avoid or limit pigmented food and beverages, including red wine, coffee, and berries, to keep your smile looking as white as possible. Also, maintain a proper oral hygiene routine.
