Invisalign Orthodontics

Invisalign Orthodontics

Invisalign is an effective and discreet alternative to traditional metal braces. These clear aligner trays can realign crooked, gapped and misaligned teeth without the need for brackets and wires. The Invisalign trays resemble mouthguards and are changed every two weeks. They gently reposition your teeth until you achieve a straight, healthy smile.

You may be a candidate for Invisalign orthodontics if you have:

  • Gaps between your teeth.
  • Overbite, underbite, or crossbite.
  • Tooth crowding which causes crookedness.
  • Some minor misalignment after traditional orthodontic treatment.

Advantage of Invisalign Orthodontics

One of the main reasons patients love Invisalign is because the aligners are virtually invisible and have less of an impact on your quality of life as you straighten your teeth. Some other advantages of Invisalign include:

  • Improved tooth and gum health due to easier cleaning.
  • No need to make modifications to your diet as trays are removed before eating.
  • More comfortable to wear than traditional metal braces.
  • Reduced risk of wear-and-tear on teeth.
  • Improved speaking ability.

Invisalign Treatment Process

Before you are fitted for Invisalign trays, your teeth are assessed and examined to determine whether you are a candidate for clear aligners. Your dentist takes digital X-rays of your mouth and scans your teeth using 3D imaging technology. Digital impressions are then taken of your teeth and the data is sent to an off-site lab where your Invisalign aligners are fabricated.

At your next appointment, your dentist will demonstrate how to fit and remove your aligners. Every two weeks, you switch out your aligners for the next set in the series. You wear your aligners for 20-22 hours each day, only removing them to eat and brush your teeth.

You’ll visit your dentist every 6-8 weeks to have your progress monitored. The treatment takes 12-18 months on average; however, the duration of treatment depends on the severity of your tooth misalignment.
