Bridges

Bridges

Missing teeth not only affect your appearance, but they can also cause jaw instability and lead to misalignment, tooth decay of healthy teeth, and bone loss. Bridges are an effective way to replace missing teeth and restore the function and look of your smile as well as your self-esteem.

At Advanced Family Dentistry, we create dental bridges that are customized to fit your unique smile. Dental crowns cap the healthy teeth on either side of the gap to securely hold single or multiple artificial teeth in place.

You may need a bridge if:

  • You are missing a single tooth or multiple teeth.
  • You develop bite problems due to teeth shifting into the gap and misalignment.
  • Your face appears sunken.
  • You wish to improve your ability to chew.
  • You require a more permanent solution to missing teeth than dentures.
  • Your missing tooth is impacting your ability to speak.
  • You want to talk and laugh with confidence and restore your smile.

Advantages of Bridges

Unlike other solutions for missing teeth, bridges are permanent and function in the same way as your natural teeth. In addition to restoring your appearance, bridges can also improve the stability of your jawbone and prevent deterioration. Bridges can also prevent your remaining teeth from shifting along the gum membrane and causing poor alignment.

Disadvantages of Bridges

Dental bridges are designed to be durable; however, they won’t last forever. You may need to have your bridge re-cemented, and in some cases replaced, if the crowns and anchors become worn over time. For a longer-lasting alternative to a bridge, ask our dental team about dental implants.

Dental Bridge Procedure

Fitting a dental bridge is a simple procedure. The two teeth either side of the missing tooth are prepared and shaped by removing a small amount of enamel to make room to accommodate the dental crown. Then your dentist takes an impression of your teeth so the dental lab can fabricate your customized dental bridge.

You may be given a temporary bridge to wear until your permanent bridge is ready. Once the dental bridge is fabricated, it will be cemented into place for a natural-looking smile.
